Grief: Understanding, Coping, and Finding Meaning After Loss

April 3, 2027 @ 10:00 am - 11:30 am
$50.00

Grief is one of the most universal human experiences, yet no two people experience it in exactly the same way. We may grieve the death of someone we love, the end of a relationship, changes in health or independence, the loss of a job or career, a move, infertility, the loss of a pet, caregiving changes, or the unexpected ending of a chapter of life we thought would continue.

Some losses are openly recognized and supported by others. Others may be deeply painful but receive little acknowledgment. Whatever the source, grief can affect far more than our emotions.

In this compassionate and informative 90-minute online workshop, clinical psychologist Dr. Ginny Estupinian will explore the emotional, physical, cognitive, and neurological dimensions of grief and help participants better understand what happens when we experience significant loss.

Participants will learn why grief can involve much more than sadness. It may also bring anger, guilt, relief, numbness, anxiety, loneliness, exhaustion, difficulty concentrating, changes in sleep, physical discomfort, or the experience often described as “grief fog.” The workshop will also examine how grief affects the brain and stress response, helping participants understand why loss can sometimes feel physically painful and mentally overwhelming.

Dr. Estupinian will discuss different forms of grief, including normal grief, anticipatory grief, prolonged grief, and disenfranchised grief—the kinds of losses that may not always receive the recognition or support they deserve. These may include the loss of a relationship, a career, health, independence, a beloved pet, or an important identity or life role.

The workshop will also challenge common myths about grief, including the idea that people should “get over it,” move through grief according to a predictable timetable, or follow a particular set of stages. Grief is not a test to complete or a process that looks the same for everyone. It is a process of adaptation—learning how to live with the reality of what has changed while continuing to move through life.

Most importantly, participants will leave with practical coping strategies. These may include talking about the loss, journaling, creating personal rituals, honoring memories, building supportive connections, and creating intentional space for difficult emotions. The workshop will also address when grief becomes more persistent or disruptive and when professional support may be helpful.

Finally, we will explore an important question that often emerges after significant loss: How do I find meaning and purpose again?

Moving forward does not mean forgetting, minimizing, or replacing what has been lost. It means learning how to carry that experience differently. Connection, creativity, volunteering, relationships, storytelling, legacy-building, and new sources of purpose can all become part of life after loss.

This workshop is not about leaving grief behind. It is about understanding it, responding to it with greater compassion, and recognizing that grief and hope can exist at the same time.

You can deeply miss what was lost and still create a meaningful life around what remains—and what may still be ahead.
